0126 Computational Physics I:
Fundamental Numerical Methods HS 3 19.10.10
Di 14:00 – 16:00
Contents:
This course gives an introduction to the solution of physical problems with
computers. We will focus on numerical problems. We will discuss data
representation, rounding errors, linear algebra problems, ordinary differential
equations, equation solving, integration of functions and Monte-Carlo techniques.
We will discuss and implement (-> exercises) simple algorithms in C and Python.
These will be compared to sophisticated algorithms used in programs like
Mathematica and Maple. The exercises will be held in the CIP-pool which
offers all major programming languages and computer algebra/ numerics packages.
Previous programming experience is not necessary.
On request by the audience, this course can be given in English.
